AKRON, Ohio (TND) — One person is dead and 24 are injured after a shooting at an Ohio street party.
The Akron Police Department said in a news conference that around 10 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a private residence in Akron on reports of a large gathering. Officers arrived on scene and observed around 200 people in attendance of a birthday party who were "taking over the street." Officers dispatched the crowd and no arrests were made.
Police said between 10 p.m. and midnight, people began migrating back to the scene.
Patrol officers responded to the same residence again just after midnight on reports of a shooting. Twenty-five people shot in total, with one person deceased and 24 others injured. Two of those who are injured remain in critical condition.
The victims range in age from 19 to 43 years old, but most of them are in their 30s, police said.
Two handguns and more than 35 bullet shell casings were recovered from the scene. Officers believe someone was driving by shooting from a car and said some individuals at the party may have returned fire.
No arrests in the shooting have been made yet and no suspect information is available.
