CEO bikes 9,000 miles to raise awareness for senior care needs

One man from Texas is going the extra mile to raise awareness for senior care needs.

Riding his electric bike from San Antonio, Texas to Stroudsburg, Founder and CEO, Jeff Salter, of Caring Senior Service is raising awareness one mile at a time.

“I had a challenge on these hills I did have a little malfunction with my battery rode for about 50 miles I have 40 or so to go, been riding my electric bike, because it helps me with the hills normally but you guys got a lot of hills here so I pushed it a little too much," said Salter.

Since April 1, Salter has been riding throughout the country, visiting each one of Caring Senior Service’s 45 locations as part of his 9 thousand mile, 45-city cross country tour in the hopes of inspiring others.

“Along with celebrating 30 years, we’re launching a movement to close the gap in senior care. What I’m doing is going to communities and talking about the unmet and underserved needs of seniors. In those local communities and having those conversations with people.”

With his cross country tour, Salter hopes to raise $100,000 for grab bars to be purchased and installed in the homes of seniors.

“We need more caregivers out there to help the aging senior population. I’m hoping to inspire individuals that are looking into technology, evolving technology and they might steer their attention toward seniors and help seniors that are at home and be independent," said Salter.

At their Stroudsburg location, Caring Senior Service is also looking to fill 20 positions.

Owner, Jenn Fayash says they are in desperate need of some help, especially following a pandemic.

“The pandemic was hard, everyone was an essential worker so we all had to keep working through it, its also created a need for more caregivers," said Fayash.

With 6,000 miles left to go – Salter says he will continue to meet with city leaders, franchise owners, senior citizen activists, business members and caregivers to help "close the gap."

“I'm headed to Canton Ohio and Columbus, Ohio then I'll go to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Utah all the way to the west coast, to Long Beach, California then I'll start heading back from there. Then I'll finally get home on August 1st, when I hope to be back," said Salter.
