Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — Friday was opening day for NHL free agency and the Pittsburgh Penguins saw two of their former defenders ink deals with division rivals.
According to NHL.com, Jack Johnson, who was recently placed on waivers by Pittsburgh, signed a 1-year contract with the New York Rangers.
Additionally, two-time Stanley Cup champion Justin Schultz signed a two-year deal with the Washington Capitals.
The Schultz deal is reportedly worth $4 million per year, NHL.com reports.
Johnson and Schultz are not the only former Penguins who will not be in a Pittsburgh uniform next season, as the team has traded both forward Patric Hornqvist and goaltender Matt Murray in recent weeks.
