Lit Drummer Allen Shellenberger Dead At 39

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Allen Shellenberger, the drummer for the multiplatinum-selling rock band Lit, has died of brain cancer. He was 39.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Shellenberger died at his mother's home. He had been diagnosed with malignant glioma in 2008 and undergoing treatment since then, last performing with the band in the fall of 2008.

Shellenberg first joined the band, which went through some format and name changes before finally settling on Lit in 1989. The band broke out with their 1999 release "A Place in the Sun."

"To know Al was to know laughter," Lit's suriving bandmembers said in a joint statement. "He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed."

"He was a very peaceful guy," Kevin Baldes, Lit's bassist told the Times "He didn't like arguing, didn't like confrontation; he just liked to have a good time."

A memorial event is being organized in Shellenberger's memory but details are pending. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
