The ‘Search for Zarude’ Special Research is now available in Pokémon GO to celebrate the upcoming movie, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, releasing globally on Netflix on October 8, 2021. ‘Search for Zarude’ is a 5-part limited-time Special Research that rewards the new Mythical Pokémon Zarude, as well as other Pokémon featured in the new movie.
In this guide, we’re going to cover all tasks featured in this new Special Research, as well as their rewards and the best ways to complete them. Once ‘Search for Zarude’ has been started, the Special Research can be completed at any time, however, it’s much easier to complete each page while the ‘Secrets of the Jungle’ event is active. Visit our news article for more information on the Pokémon GO: Secrets of the Jungle event.
Page completion rewards: 250x Stardust, 10x Nanab berries & a Drilbur encounter
The first page starts the ‘Search for Zarude’ Special Research off easily. All you will need to do is catch 7 different species of Pokémon, which will automatically complete the ‘Catch 7 Pokémon’ task. 12 Pokémon species are currently spawning with the ‘Secrets of the Jungle’ event, not including Pokémon already spawning during the current Season of Mischief.
2 species you can easily obtain are Wobbuffet and Meowth, which will spawn after taking an AR snapshot of any of your Pokémon. The other 5 species can simply be caught in the wild. You will also need to take 3 snapshots of wild Ground-type Pokémon by tapping the camera icon during a wild encounter. Diglett and Drilbur are currently the only Ground-type Pokémon spawning during this event, although they’re both very common.
Page completion rewards: 250x Stardust, 10x Razz berries & a Combee encounter
Great Throws can be obtained by throwing a Pokéball directly at the colored inner-circle when it’s around half the size of the outer-circle. Missing a throw, throwing a Nice Throw or not getting a catch bonus will all break this streak. Excellent Throws will not break your streak, however, as Excellent Throws are considered harder to throw than Great Throws. Bug-type Pokémon spawning during this event are Caterpie, Dwebble and Combee.
Page completion rewards: 500x Stardust, 10x Pinap Berries & a Nuzleaf encounter
30 Grass- or Bug-type Pokémon can sound daunting, but the majority of Pokémon spawning during this event are Grass- or Bug-type, meaning you’ll complete this task in no time. Make sure to pair each capture with a berry to complete the ‘Use 20 berries’ task at the same time. It’s worth noting that said task doesn’t actually require you to catch the Pokémon, you can simply tap on a Pokémon, feed it a berry and run and still receive progress. Oddish and Cottonee are the Grass-type Pokémon spawning during ‘Secrets of the Jungle’.
Page completion rewards: 500x Stardust, 1x Poffin & a Rufflet encounter
Team GO Rocket Grunts can be battled by tapping Rocket Balloons that spawn above the player in 6-hour intervals, or by spinning black PokéStops. Team GO Rocket leaders will not progress the quest, so unequip your Rocket Radar in your bag if you only want to encounter Grunts from Balloons. Jessie and James both count as grunts, however, meaning you can progress the task twice from one balloon.
Weather Boosted Pokémon will have an icon of the current weather above their CP when encountered. To check what Pokémon types are currently Weather Boosted, tap the weather icon in the top right of the screen. Weather Boosted Pokémon are stronger and reward more Stardust upon capture. Flying-type Pokémon spawning during this event include Combee and Pidove.
Page completion rewards: Zarude encounter, 10x Zarude Candy & 1000 Stardust
The final step of ‘Search for Zarude’, like most Special Research involving Mythical Pokémon, is auto-completed once the previous page completion rewards are redeemed. You’ll finally be able to catch Zarude as you would with any other Pokémon encounter. Zarude cannot be shiny, nor can it be traded, like most Mythical Pokémon obtained via Special Research in Pokémon GO. Congratulations! You’ve completed ‘Search for Zarude’.
